[edit] How to Role Play on Forums
Role-playing on a forum can be fun, exciting, and rewarding, so long as everyone is fair, and knows what they are doing. So, here is a collection of pointers on successful RP, written by the writers.
Role-Play Basics
Role-Playing is taking an out of world character, and making him/her come alive. You control every aspect of this person, and try to see through his/her's eyes. Role Playing in the CC forums is done in turn’s. Each person posts what he/she does, and the other player(s) respond to that, adding onto the story. Some things to remember in turn style is to be courteous in your posting. It is generally welcomed that players in an RP never double post. Double posting is very confusing, and gives other players a hard time.
Role-Play Fighting
Fighting in forum RPG’s is somewhat hard to do. Players must be mature enough to handle hurting themselves, and dealing damage to other players. A key rule to remember is to be realistic. Entirely realistic. Fighting is done like this; When one attacks, you should clearly state it as an attack. An example is “Eric throws his fist out, to strike Arnold in the face.” Remember, you never say that you did strike the person. Do not say “Eric throws his fist out, hitting Arnold in the face, knocking him to the ground.” It is up to the person being attacked to decide if you hit or not. This can be difficult, because if the person is too ignorant, the whole shebang goes down. When one is attacked, it is usually expected that you take at least some of a hit. It is good to say “Arnold was able to turn his head on time, so the punch wouldn’t knock him out. But in doing so, Arnold lost his balance and fell to the ground.” That is an excellent example of taking a hit. Remember, though, to be realistic. If someone whacks at you with a stick, and you don’t see it coming, take the hit. You don’t have eyes in the back of your head……
Role Play Writing
Writing Role-play takes talent, inventiveness, and an overall sense of maturity. Role-play writing also takes time. Before you post, think of what you are going to write. Try to be descriptive in your works. Here is a good example; On being organized with an RP, it is generally recommended that you follow the rules that authors use in books. Because you are writing a story. For talking, try to use the quotation marks (“.”) This definitely helps the organization. Make sure to use italics when thinking, and everything else in normal text. Bolded text can also be used for loud actions, and small text for whispers, ect. On writing more creatively to fulfill and enrich your experience, it is recommended you put you in your characters place. First off, try to use correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Secondly, always post more than four lines. Things that you should post include; smells, taste, thoughts, feelings, etc. Anything that enhances your RP work. Also, be sure to write how you feel, smile pics are usually not accepted.

I want to give all the credit to Hyakuji High RPG as I used their guides as a source for my information. Check out the forum. I would also like to thank the DnD books.
